Mowing Lawns in Dorset

Mowing
Your new lawn turf needs time to re-establish itself and for its roots to grow down into your soil. If you have given your turf a good watering after laying this should start to occur quickly.
If you have a grass collector on your mower, use it, if you do not, you should remove the clippings. Apart from looking unsightly they can encourage worms and fungus, and will stop moisture and air getting into the soil.
Don't scalp your lawn! You will see many lawns turning brown and unsightly during the summer, where people think they are meant to cut the grass very short. Having your grass very short allows the ground to bake in hot weather, "burning" off your lovely turf. Set your cutting height to approx 25mm. Most lawns will have the natural undulations of the ground, keeping your cutting deck at this height will also help stop these "bumps" being shaved!
Trimming a little and often will encourage your to grow a thicker, denser looking lawn.
Give your mower a treat, giving a service and ensuring the cutters are sharp will make your efforts to keep a beautiful lawn easier.
